BIOGRAFIJA

From a very young age, Slovenian native born, Ana Soklič nurtured a singular creative spirit, springing from her restless inner directive.

Soklič first built her musical knowledge at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana (SI) with a professor of opera singing, Alenka Dernač Bunta. She then continued with the renowned Slovenian musician of jazz and classical singing, Darja Švajger, and later with the pedagogue, Nataša Nahtigal. In 2018 she mastered her knowledge with prof. Dileesa Archer (soul, gospel, rnb) Georgia, Atlanta (USA).

Intrigued by the dynamics of soul, neo soul music, pop-rock, and jazz as much as with the richness and human quality of live instrumentation and songcraft, Anna has worked tirelessly to evolve and forge a unique, compelling and deeply soulful marriage of the organic “past” and misty “future”.

“God gave me the most beautiful place on earth to spend my childhood, He named it Bohinj (God- “Boh”), surrounded by lakes and woods, nothing else could give me as much power for making music alive, sharing stories you can only dream of.”

“When I sing blues, soul, jazz, I feel like being home”, she likes to say “and to be an author, well, that really gives you another dimension, some sort of depth you maybe didn’t understand so much before.”

She has performed with the famous Harlem gospel choir (NY), who had sung for Barack Obama, the Pope and who had participated with U2, Elton John, Mary J. Blige, among many other artists.

” Her “catch” is her performance, she is simply “that voice”: an emotional, blues- jazz drenched that ranges from a lilting slap to a knock- you -backwards uppercut.” (Tim Arrington, the leader of the Harlem Gospel Choir).

I was highly impressed by the main guest for the night. Ana has a mesmerizing deep soulful voice, full of richness and emotional depth. She’s outside all frameworks. (Eve magazine, Malta, August 2019).

I couldn’t believe a woman with Her looks could sing like that! I was literally blown away..Her tone, power, delivery, execution, passion,..She’s got it all there! (VEM Magazine, – Veneto JAZZ, Venezia 017).

For Ana Soklič, her sophomore release represents an introspective expedition into the depths of her own, artistic identity.

Many times accompanied with the symphonic orchestras and big bands, Influences of a variety music genres can be felt in Ana Soklič’s music. And with her originality and vocal ability, she always manages to unite them into a unique whole.

“I’m psyched and petrified,” says Ana in her archetypal wide-eyed wonderment mixed with a fierce determination. “As a songwriter, I want to go to places people don’t expect and with that is complete freedom of expression.”

With appearances on national television, she appeared in the Slovenian selection for the Eurovision Song Contest (EMA) when in 2020 she won with her original piece titled Voda (Water). Because of the pandemic (Covid19) she was later on selected to represent her country as well in 2021 with a new song titled Amen.

In the Slovene Song Festival (Slovenska popevka) in 2019, Soklič received two awards for the song “Dark World”; award for the best interpretation and the best composition as a whole.

In her words, music is the way of living, and in the first place she puts performing live on stage, where there is no space and time to manipulate as all the power of interpretation directly comes to the audience.
